The best 11 or so tweets about Pope Francis

So there’s a new pope. Unless you’ve managed to completely cut yourself off from civilization — as I’m sure Ron Swanson aspires to do — you already knew that.

Seeing as this is a blog mainly for young adults, we’ll assume this is only the second papal election you’ve ever seen. But for Twitter, it’s the first.

There was a predictable flurry of tweets Wednesday as we learned about the new Pope Francis, aka Jorge Mario Bergoglio. We’ve gathered some of the best, and if you can’t get enough of the stuff, other outlets have their own collections.



From the official Vatican account, which was reactivated after the selection of Francis. The tweet translates to “We have Pope Francis.”


Francis, the former Archbishop of Buenos Aires, is the first pope from the Americas and, significantly, Latin America.
