QOTD: White House stays positive on fading assault weapons ban

“We’re going to work on this. We’re going to find the votes. And it deserves a vote and let’s see if we can get it done.”

— White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, in a interview with CNN Tuesday after Senate Democrats elected not to include an assault weapons ban in its larger gun control package. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he likely has less than 40 votes in favor of the ban, but told bill sponsor Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) she could introduce it as an amendment to ensure a vote.
