Sylvia Rhodes Bradley files, formally announces

Monday, after months of pre-campaigning, Sylvia Rhodes Bradley formally filed to run against John Wiley Price for his seat on the Dallas County Commissioners Court. SRB is the only independent in the race, and believes this gives her an advantage.

“I wish that they would have studied the outcomes when there are a lot of individuals in the race and we are trying to remove the person in office. They are dividing the vote. I wish everyone would have gotten together and said, listen, ‘let’s have a united front and support one person,'” she said.

Filing as an independent allows Bradley to skip out on the primary. She will then take on the winner of the Democratic primary, which is now between Price, Micah B. Phillips, Betty Culbreath and Bennie Brown. She will also face Charles Lingerfelt – the only Republican running.

All of these candidates appear to be last minute filings, which SRB said may be an indication that they aren’t serious about the position.

“I think, and this is just my opinion, you may have a lot of people in the race because they see the FBI investigation and think he may be charged,” she said. “I’ve been in this even before the investigation. This makes me work harder, but I’m happy to do that.”

SRB said her next step is to start educating voters about the race, and about how to vote independent.

“A lot of people are intimidated because they have always hit the straight Democrat or straight Republican, so we are going to get that message across,” she said. “They need to know they can look for me in November, and I’ll be running an aggressive campaign against whoever wins the primary.”
